The Love Story

THE LOVE STORY
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(KJV)
This Verse SUMS up the salvation Story : A love Story.
It all starts with God’s love.
1Jo 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
(KJV)
GOD’S ESSENCE IS LOVE; HE ALWAYS ACTS IN LOVE
YOU HAVE BECOME PART OF A FAMILY WHOSE CORE VALUE IS LOVE
YOU ARE LOVED MORE THAN YOU CAN EVER UNDERSTAND NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE , WHO YOU ARE , WHAT YOU HAVE DONE. YOU ARE LOVED BEYOND MEASURE
Jer 31:3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. {of…: Heb. from afar} {with lovingkindness…: have I extended lovingkindness unto thee}
(KJV)
YOU WERE CREATED TO HAVE FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD
GOD CREATED ADAM AND EVE FOR FELLLOWSHIP AND RELATIONSHIP, BUT THEY LISTENED TO THE ENEMY’S LIES AND CHOSE TO BE LIKE HIM AND INDEPENDENT FROM HIM.
BY AGREEING TO THE ENEMY THE LOST ALL THE GOOD THINGS GOD HAD PLANNED FOR THEM.
GOD’S HEART WAS BROKEN WHEN MAN BROKE FELLOWSHIP WITH HIM, BUT ….. HE MADE A WAY THROUGH CHRIST JESUS
JESUS TOOK OUR PLACE ON THE CROSS OF CALVARY AND DIED THE DEATH WE DESERVED.
BEING THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD , DEATH COULD NOT HOLD HIM CAPTIVE ; HE RESSURECTED AND MANY SO HIM ALIVE TEACHING, EATING AND DRINKING
WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM
GOD ASKS US TO ONLY BELIEVE
NOT ENOUGH THAT JESUS WAS A GOOD TEACHER, GOOD MORAL EXAMPLE, A HOLY MAN ,
NOT ENOUGH TO SEE HIM AS AMONG THE MANY GODS
JESUS IS FULLY GOD AND FULLY MAN ; A MIRACLE AND A MINISTRY ; MILLIONS OF CHANGED AND TRANSFORMED LIVES ARE EVIDENCE OF THIS REALITY.
HE IS OUR SAVIOUR , LORD AND KING OVER ALL
Re 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
(KJV)
Da 4:17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.
(KJV)
Ps 103:19 The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.
(KJV)
IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO KNOW THIS TRUTH ALONE ; EVEN THE DEVIL AND DEMONS KNOW THIS TRUTH , BUT WE MUST PERSONALLY BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST AS LORD AND SAVIOUR.
WE MUST BE WILLING TO COMMIT OUR LIVES TO HIM
TRUSTING HIM TO BE OUR SAVIOUR , LORD AND KING
WE CAN DO NOTHING TO SAVE OURSELVES ; NO MATTER HOW MUCH GOOD WORKS YOU DO , YOU CAN NOT EARN YOUR WAY INTO GOD’S FAMILY
WE CAN NEVER SATISFY DIVINE JUSTICE , NO MATTER OUR SACRIFICE OR PENANCE , BECAUSE WE ARE MERELY HUMAN.
GOD ACCOMPLISHED OUR REDEMTION THROUGH JESUS CHRIST , WE COULD NOT DO IT ON OUR OWN.
HE HAS PAID FOR OUR SINS AND ADOPTED US INTO HIS FAMILY. SENT THE HOLYSPIRIT TO LIVE IN OUR HEARTS ; HE HAS PROVIDED ALL WE NEED TO LIVE A HOLY LIFE ; PROVIDED AN ETERNAL HOME FOR US WHERE WE WILL LIVE WITH HIM FOREVER ; HE IS OUR SAVIOUR
GOD HAS DONE HIS PART AND CLEANSED US FROM OUR SINS AND MADE US NEW CREATURES ; BUT SOMETIMES WE ARE TEMPTED AND FALL INTO SIN And our OLD NATURE
WHAT DO WE DO WHEN WE FALL?
REMEMBER THAT GOD LOVES YOU AND THAT HE IS YOUR SAVIOUR
DO NOT TRY TO WORK YOUR WAY INTO HIS PRESENCE BY BEING EXTRA GOOD
DO NOT TRY TO HIDE FROM HIM IN SHAME OR EMBARASMENT , BECAUSE YOU HAVE FAILED TO LIVE THE WAY YOU THINK HE EXPECTS YOU TO.
DO NOT WITHDRAW FROM HIM IN GUILT ,BECAUSE OF YOUR FAILURE AND WEAKNESS
Ps 103:13 Like as a father pitieth his children, So Jehovah pitieth them that fear him.
14 For he knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are as grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; And the place thereof shall know it no more.
17 But the lovingkindness of Jehovah is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, And his righteousness unto children’s children;
18 To such as keep his covenant, And to those that remember his precepts to do them.
19 Jehovah hath established his throne in the heavens; And his kingdom ruleth over all.
(ASV)

1Jo 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
(ASV)
AS SOON AS YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE SINNED RUN TO HIM FOR FORGIVENESS AND CLEANSING
THE SAME POWER IN THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST THAT GAVE YOU SALVATION ; IS THE SAME POWER THAT WILL KEEP YOU CLEAN , HOLY ,AND SANCTIFIED. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LEAVE A DEFEATED CHRISTIAN LIFE IN SIN,GUILT AND SHAME.
NOT JUST SAVIOUR ,BUT LORD
IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO RECOGNIZE JESUS SAVIOUR , BUT YOU MUST ALSO RECOGNIZE HIM AS LORD.
2Pe 3:18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and for ever. Amen.
(ASV)
MEANING OF THE NAME LORD :- One who has authority ,power , control over others, such as a monarch , master , ruler.
ON the contrary todays society values : individualism, independence and democracy.
Believing Jesus as your Lord means you make him your Lord, master and King.
Mt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven.
(ASV)

(ASV)
GOD WANTS YOU TO HAVE AN EXTRA ORDINARY LIFE FULL OF JOY, PEACE, LOVE, YOU CAN TRUST HIM WITH YOUR FUTURE
IF YOU LISTEN TO HIM AND OBEY HIM , HE WILL LEAD YOU TO A LIFE FULL OF HOPE , ABUNDANCE, MORE BLESSED
IN EVERY AREA OF YOUR LIFE YOU MAKE HIM LORD IN YOUR LIFE HE BECOMES YOUR SAVIOUR AND BRINGS IN GREAT DELIVERANCE.
IN THE SCRIPTURE JESUS IS REFERED TO AS LORD AND SAVIOUR NOT SAVIOUR AND LORD. HIS LORDSHIP COMES FIRST.
HE IS SAVIOUR OF YOUR FINANCES AFTER HE IS LORD OVER YOUR FINANCES
HE IS SAVIOUR OVER YOUR HEALTH AFTER HE IS LORD OVER YOUR BODY
WHEN YOU SUBMIT TO HIM AS KING , YOU ENTER INTO HIS KINGDOM AND OPERATE AT A HIGHER LEVEL THAN THE EARTHLY KINGDOMS.

‘The Ball is On Your Court’

The ball is on your court’
Matthew 25:13-30

Mt 25:13 Keep watch, then, because you are not certain of the day or of the hour.
14 For it is as when a man, about to take a journey, got his servants together, and gave them his property.
15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to everyone as he was able; and he went on his journey.
16 Straight away he who had been given the five talents went and did trade with them, and made five more.
17 In the same way he who had been given the two got two more.
18 But he who was given the one went away and put it in a hole in the earth, and kept his lord’s money in a secret place.
19 Now after a long time the lord of those servants comes, and makes up his account with them.
20 And he who had the five talents came with his other five talents, saying, Lord, you gave into my care five talents: see, I have got five more.
21 His lord said to him, Well done, good and true servant: you have been true in a small thing, I will give you control over great things: take your part in the joy of your lord.
22 And he who had the two talents came and said, Lord, you gave into my care two talents: see, I have got two more.
23 His lord said to him, Well done, good and true servant: you have been true in a small thing, I will give you control over great things: take your part in the joy of your lord.
24 And he who had had the one talent came and said, Lord, I had knowledge that you are a hard man, getting in grain where you have not put seed, and making profits for which you have done no work:
25 And I was in fear, and went away, and put your talent in the earth: here is what is yours.
26 But his lord in answer said to him, You are a bad and unready servant; if you had knowledge that I get in grain where I did not put seed, and make profits for which I have done no work,
27 Why, then, did you not put my money in the bank, and at my coming I would have got back what is mine with interest?
28 Take away, then, his talent and give it to him who has the ten talents.
29 For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have more: but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
30 And put out the servant who is of no profit into the outer dark: there will be weeping and cries of sorrow.
(BBE)
Mt 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
 Watch / Be Alert / Be AWAKE
14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
 delivered unto them his goods / substance
 He gave them His property
 Entrusted his property to their care
15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. {talents: a talent is one hundred and eighty seven pounds ten shillings}
 He gave according to ability of the individual
16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
 The power of multiplication
17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
 The power of multiplication within us
 Man has the inherent ability to multiply himself. [Ge 1:28 And God blessed them: and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
 (ASV)]
18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.
 Buried / hid the Lord’s treasure./ The Lord’s money
19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
 After a long time / a long alapse of time. (denotes the return of Christ) / After a considerable time
 To take accounts
20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
 Multiplied the talents
21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
 There is a reward of taking responibility
22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
 Wrong attitude ; cannot take responsibility. Victim mentality / competitive mentality / prideful mentality
25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
 Hiding the talent / the gift / the ministry
26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
 You receive according to your attitude
27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
 Even the little will be taken away
29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
 The Lord is also interested in profit and profitable servants

Small Groups Discussion this Week : The Good Samaritan

Every Christian is a Minister 1 Peter 2:9
[9]But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. We are to share God’s Goodness to Others. This week Purpose Share Jesus Christ with Your Friends, Family, Workmates, Business Partners, Customers and anyone willing to listen. Gather two, three or more people this week at work, at the office, at home in a cell group and feel free to share for atleast an our the following material. Do it prayerfully and may the Lord bless your efforts. Please kindly share the good reports and the challenges you encounter. God bless You Pastor Willy:Caring–GoodSamaritan
BASEDON:Luke10:30-37
THEMES:Demonstrating love,True neighbors,Racism,Tribalism
INTRODUCTION:Jesus was well established as a teacher and as a powerful worker of miracles. But
the experts in the Jewish law were not easily convinced. One of these experts was manuevered by Jesus
into recognizing that the law commanded that you must love your neighbor as yourself. To justify himself,
the expert then asked Jesus,“Who is my neighbor?”Jesus gave. this story as his answer.
STORY:Tell the story.
DISCUSSION:
1.Observation questions:Examples:What happened first?What next? Andsoforth.
2.Retelling the story: Have someone repeat the story for the group.
3.Interpretation questions:

Who were the characters in this story?
o
Was the ethnic background of each character important?

Why did the priest and the Levite not help the beaten man from Jerusalem?

What would the innkeeper have done if he had not been given money for the care of the wounded
man?

Why did the teacher of the law identify the true neighbor as“the one who had mercy on him, ”but did
not call him “the Samaritan”?

Why do you think Jesus answered the question,“ Who is my neighbor?”with a story, and not with a
direct answer?

Did the teacher of the law succeed injustfying himself by asking,“Who is my neighbor?”
4.Application quesstions:

Do you have negative attitudes to people who come from certain ethnic groups?
o
Do you think these are attitudes God wants you to change?
o
If so, what is the first step God wants you to take?

Are you more likely to help those in need if someone else is paying for it?

Why did this story of Jesus give you a clearer idea of who is your neighbor than you could have
learned from a list of criteria for a neighbor?

Do you ever use questions to divert attention from your shortcomings?
o
How well will this succeed, when you are dealing with God?
5.Practice: Divide into pairs to practice telling this story. During the week, tell your family, friends and
neighbors the story of the Good Samaritan.

Comparison of the Articles of Faith in Islam and Christianity

JESUS LOVES MUSLIMS TOO – UNDERSTANDING ISLAM FROM A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE 005- THE ARTICLES OF FAITH COMPARED IN ISLAM AND CHRISTIANITY

THE ARTICLES OF FAITH COMPARED IN ISLAM AND CHRISTIANITY

LESSONS OBJECTIVE
To correct negative stereotypes about Muslims
To better understand Islam and its origins
To appreciate positive aspects of the Islamic religion and culture
To Foster meaningful harmonious relationships between Muslims and Christians
To challenge Christians to break religious and cultural barriers and reach out to their Muslim neighbors with the love of Christ.
THE ARTICLES OF FAITH COMPARED IN ISLAM AND CHRISTIANITY
The Islamic word for faith is iman. For orthodox Muslims, faith is primarily a cognitive issue – that is , an intellectual process – a matter of acknowledging as true the teaching of the Quran and Muhammad the prophet of Allah. This knowledge in itself becomes a fulfillment of one of the requirements of Salvation.
In contrast, in Christianity faith a heart issue. Lu 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
(KJV) : Ac 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
(KJV)
For the Muslim, then faith relates directly to works and thus differs from the Christian view of faith. Heb 11:1 Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen.
(ASV)
For the Christian simply knowing what the Bible says is not enough to earn favor with God. The true seeker of God’s truth as revealed in the Bible must apply this knowledge and allow it to lead him to Christ and his atoning death to obtain salvation. So it is the atoning death of Christ that leads the true seeker to a spiritual relationship produces a spiritual change in the life. Then, from this change in life, good works result. According to the Bible , good works are a result of salvation , not the basis of it. However according to the Quran and Muhammad they are the basis of salvation.
The Orthodox Muslim believes following tenents to be a good Muslim
BELIEVE IN ONE GOD
Believe that there is only one God whom they call Allah. (Arabic for God). The word ALLAH is derieved from two words AL(THE) AND ILAH(GOD). So Allah means “The God”. In other words He is the one and only Unique God whom the Muslims believe in. He rules from heaven and shares his deity with none other.
Christians believe in one God manifesting himself in the trinity as God the Father , God the Son and , God the Holy Spirit – A single God revealing Himself in the above personalities. Ge 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. ; Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(ASV)………. Joh 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth. ; Mt 28:19 Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit:
The Quran declares Him as “The Merciful One, The Compassionate One.” He is Lord of Heaven and Earth and He is the Master of the Day of Judgement.
Christianity has similar names for God. De 4:31 for Jehovah thy God is a merciful God; he will not fail thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them. : De 13:17 And there shall cleave nought of the devoted thing to thy hand; that Jehovah may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and show thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;
He begets not and neither is He begotten; He is The Creator of all things.
Christians believe the contrary ; that God Supernaturally begot Jesus Christ through his virgin birth. Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.
(ASV)
He Called Abraham out of idolatry to worship Him as the one true God.
Judeo – Christian teachings are in total agreement with Islamic teachings on this. Ge 12:1 Now Jehovah said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto the land that I will show thee:

Muslims use ninety-nine names for Allah that describes His nature. Muslims treat the word Allah with great reverence. They never mention or write His name without an honorific expression. E.g Allah Ta’ala. (God the exalted) ; Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala ( God , glorified is He and exalted).

Christians also have different names that describe his attributes , Jehovah Jireh – God our provider , Jehovah Nissi – God our Banner , Jehovah Rohi – God our shepherd and others.
At first glance, it appears that the Muslim God is the same creator God, the God of Abraham. However the Christian view of God is very different from the Muslim view of God.
Islam teaches about angels who serve God and are spirits created from light.
Jibril – The Angel who delieved God’s message to Humankind through Prophet Muhammad. This vital work marks him as a very holy angel – also referred to as a holy spirit. Equivalent of the Angel Gabriel.
Mikail – is an angel wielding great power. Christians refer to him as Michael.
Azrail – is the angel of death who separates the soul from the body.
Israfil is the angel who blows the trumpet on the Day of Resurrection.
Malik is the doorkeeper of Hell
Munkar and Nakir are the interrogating angels who question every person’s faith after death. Muslims teaching also indicate that these two angels beat the bodies of unbelievers in the grave until the resurrection.
Harut and Marut are angels who shared the knowledge of magic with people.
In addition there two angels who sit on the shoulder of every person. One on the right recording all the good deeds and another on the left recording the evil deeds. Then on the day of judgement . God will examine these records.
Angels Play a very important role in orthodox Islam.
They are the mediators between God and People.
In Orthdox Islam , God is remote and beyond reach and has no direct links with the human race.
However , the angels provide an indirect link between God and the human race.
They bring God;s blessings down from heaven, intercede for people and deliver God’s messages.
This is in complete contrast to Christianity , which teaches Jesus Christ is the only qualified mediator between man and God because of His divine nature. Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Ac 4:10 be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even in him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 He is the stone which was set at nought of you the builders, which was made the head of the corner.
12 And in none other is there salvation: for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved.
(ASV).

The Big Elephant In The Room Series 006- Moving Your Marriage From The Rocks To The Rock.

Moving your Marriage From the Rocks to The Rock. Series 006 – “THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM”
PROVERBS 10:20 – The tongue of the just is as choice silver; the heart of the wicked is little worth. ( Comparing communication with the quality of life)
PROVERBS 12:18 – There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is health. ( The Words we speak have the ability to hurt like a sword or any other dangerous weapon : or contrary to heal like a physician ,doctor, or an appropriate drug)
PROVERBS 12:19 – The lip of truth shall be established for ever ; but a lying tongue is , but for a moment (The words we speak can determine how long or short our relationships with others will last)
PROVERBS 15:4 – A wholesome tongue is a tree of life ; but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. ( Wholesome talk or words helps us to grow our relationships, perverse insensitive talk, stifles and ultimately destroys great relationships)
PROVERBS 18:21 – Death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. ( Whether your marriage survives the storms of life or doesn’t is predominantly determined by how well the two of you communicate)
The husband and wife must overcome any obstacles to good communication if they are to walk together and experience a peaceful and harmonious marriage.
An atmosphere of openness and honesty is vital for the success of your marriage.
God gave us one mouth and two ears to listen more and talk less. Listening is a key ingredient to successful communication and ultimately successful marriage.

OBSTACLES TO GOOD COMMUNICATION IS ‘THE ELEPHANT IN THE MARRIAGE ROOM’
Failure to have quality time with God and then your Spouse
Communicating while you are full of bitterness and hurt
Truth without love ; being judgmental and critical about your spouse
Communicating through the lenses of past experiences; rejection , hurts , abuse experienced as a child or in previous relationships
Selfishness and self-centeredness : I and my world

When a Great Man Falls

A GREAT MAN FALLS
“Jg 16:30 And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead that he slew at his death were more than they that he slew in his life.”
(ASV)
WHO WAS HE?
Jg 13:2 And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not.
Samson the Son of Manoah from the tribe of Dan from Zorah
Jg 13:5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.
(KJV)
A Nazarite (Separate from the World and Dedicated to God) / A Deliverer
Samson’s mother had been barren ,meaning His birth was supernatural ; implying he was sent by God for a specific assignment
Jg 13:6 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:
(KJV)
An Angel appeared to announce His Birth
Jg 13:9 And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.
(KJV)

Twice
Jg 13:11 And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.
(KJV)
Because the being identifies himself as the Man, some bible scholars believe that this was Christ appearing to Manoah and his Wife
And Manoah refers to Him as God (Jg 13:22 And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.)
Jg 13:24 And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.
(KJV)
The Lord blessed Samson
Jg 13:25 And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol. {the camp…: Heb. Mahanehdan}
(KJV)
The Spirit of The Lord moved Him
WHAT HAPPENED?
HE DID GREAT AND MIGHTY THINGS
Jg 14:6 And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.
(KJV)
He killed a Lion
Jg 14:19 And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father’s house. {spoil: or, apparel}
(KJV)
He single handedly killed Thirty Philistines at Askelon ( a big city in philistine)
Jg 15:5 And when he had set the brands on fire, he let them go into the standing corn of the Philistines, and burnt up both the shocks, and also the standing corn, with the vineyards and olives.
(KJV)
He single handedly destroyed the food supplys and the wealth of the philistines
Jg 15:8 And he smote them hip and thigh with a great slaughter: and he went down and dwelt in the top of the rock Etam.
(KJV)
He killed a great number of the philistines who were the enemies of God’s people
Jg 15:15 And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith. {new: Heb. moist}
(KJV)
He killed one thousand philistines single handedly
Jg 15:20 And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.
(KJV)
He was leader and judge of Israel for 20 years
Jg 16:3 And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron. {bar…: Heb. with the bar}
(KJV)
Pulled out the gates of the entire city
Jg 16:30 And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life. {me: Heb. my soul}
(KJV)
He Killed three thousand Philistines with their leaders single handedly at his lowest moment.
WHEN DID THIS GREAT MAN APPEAR?
Jg 13:1 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years. {did evil…: Heb. added to commit, etc}
(KJV)

He appeared when the nation of Israel was under great oppression from their enemies for 40 years ; Samson was to be their delieverer

HOW DID THIS GREAT MAN FAIL?
Jg 14:1 And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.
(KJV)
Samson loved the daughters of the philistines
Timnath was the same place that Jacob’s daughter Dinah was defiled by the Canaanite prince ; it signifies a place of defilement
Timnath had been Judah’s territory, then Dan , then fallen to the philistine
Jg 14:3 Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well. {pleaseth…: Heb. is right in mine eyes}
(KJV)

He was more concerned about His personal pleasure and satisfaction other than obedience to the word of God.
De 7:3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.
(KJV)
He was disobedient to the voice of the parents
He lacked self- control
Jg 16:1 Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her. {harlot: Heb. a woman an harlot}
(KJV)
Samson was immoral
Jg 16:4 And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. {in…: or, by the brook}
(KJV)
Samson associated with the wrong people
Samson made bad decisions
WHY DID THIS GREAT MAN FAIL?
Although Samson was full of gifting, strength and talent ; He lacked Character to Sustain his greatness.
Giftings and talent push you to the top, but it is character that sustains you at the top
You cannot not climb beyond the limitations of your character
THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF A STRONG CHARACTER
Self- Discipline :- Discipline is doing what you must do inspite of how you feel. Successful people do not do things out of emotions , but are informed with the necessity of the task.
The great ancient philosopher Plato stated “ The first and best victory is to conquer self”.
A life of self- discipline will push you to great heights
You must first of all conquer yourself before you can conquer the world.
Honesty and Integrity :- This the aspect of being consistent in thoughts , feelings and actions. This being is truthful in what you think, say and do.
Our beliefs and Values :- Our beliefs and values are beacons and a guide in decision making which form our characters as principled individuals.
A sense of Identity :- Knowing who you are , helps you determine what you can or cannot do. It helps determine the boundaries of your life. A sense of identity enables you to establish emotional security which also drives what we do. Your identity motivates your actions. If you believe that you are not of value and worth, that you are a victim of your circumstances , you will have a distorted view of yourself and act negatively accordingly. The contrary is true, if you believe that you are of great value and worth, that you are the master of your destiny, you will have a victorious view of yourself and act positively accordingly.

THE ADVANTAGES OF A STRONG CHARACTER
A strong Character communicates dependability. – What you say and do should be consistent.
A strong Character communicates decisiveness – You stand by your decisions no matter the cost.
Character communicates leadership – People are influenced by strong character.
Character communicates establishment – Strong Character outlasts great gifts, strength and talent. Character wins the test of time.

Achieving True Forgiveness from the Heart

HEALING OF THE SOUL AND SPIRIT OF MAN SERIES 004- ACHIEVING TRUE FORGIVENESS FROM THE HEART
“….And forgive us our debt, as we also have forgiven our debtors. “ MATTHEW 6:12, NAS
ACHIEVING TRUE FORGIVENESS
Is there someone in your life you have had trouble forgiving?
Forgiveness can be difficult, but…
The law of God mandates that we reap what we sow. Sow sin; reap death (relationships die). Sow forgiveness; reap life (relationships live). (For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23, NAS
Why do we reap death? : If we do not forgive, we are not forgiven.
For if you forgive men for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions. Matthew 6:14 – 15, NAS
And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your transgressions. Mark 11 :25 -26 NAS
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9, NAS
But it isn’t fair….
Many people scoff at the idea of forgiving, because they think it means they must:
Excuse the offense. They think forgiveness means the offender was not wrong and he is not accountable to anyone.
Actually when we forgive, we enable the offender to be held accountable: Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God.. Rom 12:19a NAS
Others feel that forgiving means that they have to Forget that the offense happened.
Nowhere in the scriptures does it say we must forget
Others feel that to truly forgive they must Deny their hurt or anger they feel thus making forgiveness almost impossible
The Psalmists did not deny what they felt (see Pslams 55, 88), yet they forgave.
Still others feel that forgiveness means Trusting the offender, and let him hurt them again.
David forgave Saul, but he did not trust him ( 1Sam 26:21,25)
When should we restore close contact?
When it is wise to do so. Disern when you can trust. Is the offender willing to stop offending? Talk things out? Take steps to heal the wound inflicted on you?
Remember :- It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. Psalm 118:8

But if I give up my resentment…….
I will have nothing left to defend myself!
When our hearts insist others owe us, we remain in bondage to reaping from bitter roots, and to feelings of hurt and anger.
If we cannot surrender our “right” to demand that an offender pay us back, we need to ask, “why can’t I trust God to bring justice?”
Forgiveness is :
Greek – aphiemi – to remit a punishment or cancel a debt – a work of God’s grace.
….Some people insist that they have forgiven….
But Jesus said, A tree is known by its fruit Matthew 12:33 NAS. Where there is fruit of unforgiveness there is unforgiveness.
Why is it hard for some people to remember where unforgiveness began? As children, they thought forgiveness was:
Minimizing (it is ok / it is not so bad)
Justifying
Rationalizing that treatment was normal; convincing themselves it didn’t hurt
Offering understanding without accountability
Taking blame for the parents (or others) actions
Forgetting what others have done to them
By all these means, they have convinced themselves that others had done no wrong, and that there was , therefore , nothing to forgive.
When people finally realize they do need to forgive:
They ask, “How can I forgive if I can’t stop feeling angry?”
Forgiveness is not the cessation of anger. It is choosing to give assent to Christ work on the cross (….count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:11b, NIV
After the cross does its work, there is nothing is left to produce new anger. Residual anger will eventually dissipate.
“How do I forgive if I don’t feel angry?”
It is preferable to get in touch with the anger we’ve suppressed before we forgive. But if we cannot, we can still forgive.
Sometimes the act of forgiving makes the anger surface.
“Why do I still feel angry after I have prayed to forgive ?”
This may indicate there is another aspect of the same issue yet to be forgiven
Or it may mean that you need to process the feelings before letting them go.
How can I forgive if I realize that my parents really weren’t guilty? Shouldn’t I just declare them innocent?
Forgiveness is not always about guilt. Sometimes it is merely a way to remove our own resentment (if your child accidentally steps on his brother’s toe, don’t you have him apologize? And don’t you have his brother say, “ I forgive you?”)
Pray the Gethsemane prayer
In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus entered into prayer, identifying with those who hated Him.
Our prayers should be something like : “Lord , in compassion, identify me with the heart of my offender, with is hurts and wounds. Bring to death in me that which would declare him as sinful and me as righteous. I am not better than him. I am one with him at the foot of the cross. I cry out , “Forgive us!” Set us free from the traps of hate. End all pride and self- righteous in both of us. Enable me to identify with the person You created him to be. Restore Us Oh Lord”.
Because Jesus is fully God and fully human. He took all sins into His body “ He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2Corinthians 5:21 NAS
On the cross, Christ prayed a prayer of intercession, Father forgive them….. Luke 23:34b
Likewise when we pray to forgive, this is a prayer of intercession.
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32
The Prayer ministers role
To lead in seeking out and confessing resentment held in the heart.
“ Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16
To lead in expressing forgiveness
To offer assurance of forgiveness
“Then he breathed on them and said , “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” John 20:22-23
Some people feel the need to forgive God. Of course , God needs no forgiving! For such persons, “forgive “ means to let go of a falsely perceived issue
“Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ…. We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:18-20, NAS
Pray blessing on the offender
“Bless those who persecute you; bless and curse not…. If your enemy is hungry, feed him. And if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head….. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:14, 20-21 NAS

How do I know I have fully forgiven?
Do I have strong emotional reactions when I see the person who hurt me?
Do I want relationship (if this is wise). Or do I try to avoid the person?
Do I still rehearse “speeches” I’d like to deliver?
Do I imagine ways of getting revenge?
Can I sincerely bless this person?
Do I honestly rejoice when good things happen for him?
RECONCILE :- This is the ultimate goal of inner healing (2 Cor 5:18 , Mal 4:5,6 , Mt. 17:11) …… How will you apply the healing you have received? Change your attitude towards the offender – Reconcile ; Apologize ; make restitution ; express forgiveness ; bless ; listen to what God tells you to do ; bring healing to others

Meeting Basic Needs
THE NEEDS OF A WIFE
1Pet 3:7-10 “In the same way, you husbands must give honour to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered. Finally all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing. For the scriptures say, “if you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.
Eph 5:22-33 “ For wives this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the Church. As the Church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything. For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. And we are members of his body. As the scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one”. This is great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the Church are one. So again I say, each man must love wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. { What is love? 1Corinthians 13:3-7 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoice whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.}
She needs you to understand her.
She needs you to be tender and considerate.
She needs to be treated with respect.
She needs to protected because she is the weaker vessel.
She needs to be treated as a partner in the marriage and as a joint heir with you in the kingdom.
She needs you to build her with your speech by praise and appreciation and not be harsh with her (Colossians 3:19)
She needs you to love her and for you to sacrificially and unselfishly give yourself for her.
She needs you to nourish her spiritually by the word of God.
She needs you to be the spiritual head of the household.
She needs you to cherish and value her.
THE NEEDS OF A HUSBAND
He needs a wife who will submit to him
He needs a wife who does not nag him with her words.
He needs a wife who is pure and holy, one whom he can trust.
He needs a wife who develops her beauty outwardly and inwardly, who has a peaceful and gentle spirit.
He needs a wife who will respect him as this gives him confidence to lead.
He needs a wife who will speak life and encouragement to him spiritually.
He needs a wife who will give herself to him in sexual union.

Jesus Loves Muslims Too Series 004- The Rapid Spread Of Islam in Africa

JESUS LOVES MUSLIMS TOO – UNDERSTANDING ISLAM FROM A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE 004- THE RAPID SPREAD OF ISLAM IN AFRICA
THE ROLE OF ISLAMIC ORGANIZATIONS IN AFRICA
LESSONS OBJECTIVE
To correct negative stereotypes about Muslims
To better understand Islam and its origins
To appreciate positive aspects of the Islamic religion and culture
To Foster meaningful harmonious relationships between Muslims and Christians
To challenge Christians to break religious and cultural barriers and reach out to their Muslim neighbors with the love of Christ.

HUMANITARION AID
Until the 1960’s, European power controlled much of Africa; as result, millions of Muslims were under foreign control. Muslims viewed the colonial power not only as western but also as Christians. This foreign occupation and isolation African Muslims from the rest of the world Muslim community; consequently, African Muslims received minimal help for communal development and religious education. They lacked the resource to cultivate and spread their religion; however, two developments suddenly changed their situations.
The first development was liberation from colonial power that led to the birth of new African states. Muslim communities also experienced the relief of independence. At the same time, Western countries were becoming increasingly dependent on oil, which seemed to exist in vast deposit in the depths of Middle Eastern soil .Arabs had discovered “black gold” They owned the one commodity that was most valuable for the survival of the industrialized west-oil! Seemingly overnight, Arab nations became rich, earning billions of dollars from the sale of oil. They used this money not only to strengthen their own economy but also to spread Islam.
With the new breath of independence, Muslim countries united to form world organizations .At this point, they had the financial resources to expand their influence. So in 1969, Muslims established their own kind of “united nations,” which they called the Organisation of Islamic Conference {OIC}.By 2005, this organisation had a membership of fifty-seven countries. It serves Muslims worldwide and also promotes Islamic values and teachings to non-Islamic regions.
In December of 1991, the OIC met in Dakar, Senegal in that conference delegates affirmed their support for the uplift, the development, of the AFRICAN people. They particularly referred to the underdeveloped countries of the Sahel region. They viewed the development of this area as a necessary step for making all of Africa Islamic. The delegates also called for necessary resources to finance dawah activities and religious education.
Another conference of Muslim world leaders was held in Saudi Arabia in December of 2005. Again there was a special declaration of support for the development of Africa. The conference delegates affirmed their support for the newly formed organization CALLED NEPAD (New Economic Partners for African Development). These Muslim Leaders hope that humanitarian and development aid will attract many other Africans into to House of Islam.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Another means of attracting Africans to Islam is education. One of the primary elements of Islamic education is the madrassa, the religious school. Muslims provide elementary teaching or madrassa education for young people, often in the local mosque and claim they are education centers for the community. This strategy has become very evident in Africa. We also note with interest that Kuwait, Libya and Saudi Arabia have financed the building of mosques throughout African towns and villages.

Between 1991 and 1993, Muslims built 500 new mosques in Ethiopia, and 1999 Malawi’s president asked Muammer Gadafi of Libya to build mosques and Islamic centers in Malawi. In Zimbabwe, Malaysian Muslims financed the construction of housing colonies that featured their own mosques and Islamic centers in Malawi. In Zimbabwe, Malaysian Muslims financed the construction of housing colonies that featured their own mosque buildings. They also built Islamic schools and provided scholarships for new converts, a practice that leads to another strategy.
In addition to building mosques, oil – rich Muslim countries are granting scholarships. For example, Islamic bank (backed by Saudi Arabia) offers free education to AFRICANS who study at Islamic institutions abroad. This Africans not only receive religious education, but also are trained to return to Africa to teach secondary schools and universities. In this way, they are able to infuse Islamic values into the education of African students.
In the second Islamic conference of 1974 (in Pakistan) delegates introduced a proposal to establish two Islamic universities in Africa. Muslims build one Niger 1986 to meet the needs of West African Muslims. They build the other in Uganda to meet the needs of central and East Africa Muslims. In 1988, the Uganda University began with Just 80 students, but by 2005 its student enrolment grew to three thousand.

RELIGIOUS PROPAGATION THROUGH THE MEDIA
Another strategy that Muslims use to spread Islam is through the media: Radio , Television , Literature, and the internet. In 1966, for example, Muslim leaders met in Pakistan ways to propagate Islam. Since one of their main targets was AFRICA, they planned to establish radio stations in strategic areas throughout the continent. Years later, in 2001, the supreme council of Kenyan Muslims launched IQRA Islam broadcasting station, and both Libya and Saudi Arabia helped to finance the project. The IQRA Islam broadcasting was the first major Islamic radio station in East Africa, transmitting Islamic programmes in Kiswahili, Somali, Urdu and English. In Zimbabwe , Malaysian Muslims financed the construction of a television recording studio and provided the funds in exchange for free airtime to televise Islamic broadcast. Muslims use religious literature as another means to spread Islam. The Supreme COUNCIL for Islamic affairs in Egypt has provided most of the dawah literature for Africa. In Durban, South AFRICA, the Islamic propagation center international distributes free literature and videos for English speaking communities in AFRICA. Its founder Ahmed Deedat, was famous for his debates with notable Christians.
THE REALITY OF MILITANT ISLAM IN AFRICA
Orthodox Muslims believe God intends for Islam to rule over the world. In Practice, this means that everyone must submit to Islamic law. Most Muslims attempt to spread Islam and its laws through peaceful means; so they work in-conjunction with established systems to achieve their goals.
By contrast, other Muslims reject the idea of spreading Islam through channels of existing governments, both their own governments and foreign governments. As Africans gained their independence in the last century, there was a rise of nationalism and many new nations were born. A new hope emerged for African renewal and progress; however, many economic and social problems remained and some cases grew worse. This was true of Muslim countries as well; as a result, some Muslims blamed failure on politicians and accused them of simply adopting western colonial systems of government.
This Muslims insisted that an Islamic government was the only solution; so their resentment against existing regimes gave birth to Islamic reformists movements. Some of this movement had existed during the colonial period, and one example is Salafiyyist movement in Morrocco that surfaced in the 1920s. Members of this movement advocated a return to the religion of Salfas (ancestors), which meant a return to the seventh century religion of Muhammed and his community. This is basically the objective of fundamentalist Muslims: They want to return to the Islamic faith that Muhammed actually practiced and taught.
One of the champions of fundamentalist Islam was Hasan al-Banna, who established the Muslim Brotherhood (Ikhwan Muslim) in 1928 in Egypt. Sayyid Qutb succeeded al-Banna and wrote articles that expanded al-Banna’s teachings. Sayyid Qutb stressed the need to change Islamic society by returning to original Islam, and he believed this required the removal of secular governments. Only then, he asserted, could Islam rule over every aspect of community and private life. In his view of true Islam, there was no room for separation between church (religion) and state (politics).
While Qutb agreed that Islam speaks of peace and justice, he insisted that the implementation of justice at times requires the forceful removal of injustice that may require physical combat. He labeled the Egyptian government an unjust system because it did not rule entirely by Islamic law. As a result, the Egyptian government executed Qutb in 1966. Although he died, his teachings lived on and became the fuel for more Islamic reforms and revolutions.
Perhaps the most notable Islamic revolution in recent times erupted in Iran in 1979 when Muslims overthrew the Shah of Iran. In addition, they ended relations with the West and established their own Islamic theocracy. The successful revolution in Iran sparked a new fervor in Islamic fundamentalism worldwide, including Africa.
HOTSPOTS IN AFRICA
By the end of the twentieth century, the African continent was essentially free from colonial rule; however there was a legacy of resentment against the former colonizers. Since the colonial powers were Christian countries, many Africans looked to non-Christian nations as a source of help; however, they needed foreign resources to fund development and education. As you might Western religion and they found their solution in Islamic countries. During the late colonial period, Muslim countries provided support for anti-colonial movements. Then, after independence, they provided Africans with strict morals, a non-western system of law, and madrassa education. Muslims growth so that today Africans hear loudly and clearly the slogan, “Islam is the solution”.
As Africa opened its doors to Islam, the Muslim fundamentalists rushed in with the goal of making Africa entirely a Muslim continent. Along with them came the militant Muslims who believe that the only way to achieve their goal is by armed force. As a matter of fact, Islamic militants have influenced the direction and politics of several African countries, and the results have been brutal and deadly.
UGANDA: For a while during his rule over Uganda, Idi Amin acted as chairman of the Organisation for African Unity. At that time, he vowed to make Uganda a Muslim state – even though Uganda was 6% Muslim – and declared Islam the official religion. To fulfill his vow, he carried out a vicious campaign to exterminate thousands of Ugandan Christians.
ALGERIA: In 1991, fundamentalist Muslims in Algeria rallied in support of Islamic Salvation Front, their national Islamic Salvation organization. They entered the political process by competing in a democratic election, but it soon became evident that the Islamic Salvation Front was winning the election. So the military forces staged a coup and stopped the election; however, militant Muslims reacted in violence that claimed 40,000 lives.
SUDAN: In 1956, Sudan gained independence from Britain. At that time, Muslims attempted to force Islam on the nation of Sudan. Contesting parties, however, formed a coalition government, which granted religious freedom to Christians in the south. However, in 1985, the government under Nimeiry declared Sudan an Islamic Republic, annulled the former agreement of freedom for Christians, and imposed Islamic law on the south. This led to the breakup of the coalition government in Khartoum, and it also led to an extended civil war between the Muslims of the North and the Christians of the south, an armed conflict that claimed a million lives. As a result, millions of refugees, Christians and animists, fled to Khartoum where social upheaval still plagues the nation of Sudan.
Sudan is one of the largest countries in Africa and Arab people compromise 45% of its population. Fundamentalist Muslims see Sudan as vital link in the strategy to win the Horn of Africa for Islam. Djibouti and Somalia are already Islamic and if South Sudan falls to Islam, the door will be open for further expansion. It will increase the possibility of winning Ethiopia (currently have appointed the first Muslim Prime Minister), Eritrea, and Kenya to the cause of Islam.
NIGERIA: By the time of British rule, Islam was deeply rooted in Nigeria. The nomadic Fulani people, who were Muslims, were primarily responsible for this. In the nineteenth century, they conducted holy wars with intent of removing all traces of African traditional religion from other Muslim communities. Although the British arrived at beginning of the twentieth century, the Fulani were able to preserve their orthodox strain of Islam. At that time, most Muslims lived in the North and most Christian lived in the South.
Although Nigeria gained her independence in the 1960, the nation suffered a long period of instability marked by military coups. Then, in 1975, General Murtala Muhammad took control of the government and strongly urged making Islam the official religion of Nigeria. He changed street names from Christian names to Muslim names, and he redesigned Nigerian currency to include Arabic inscriptions and Islamic symbols. He also tried to take control of Christian schools and hospitals.
In 1989 the “Islam in AFRICA”, CONFERENCE convened in Abuja, Nigeria and in this conference Muslims delegates resolved to establish Islamic Law in their respective states. This was the first step towards their greater goal – to make Nigeria an Islamic state. After the conference, states in the northern Nigeria began to impose Islamic law, which included expelling Christians and demolishing church buildings. In addition, Saudi Arabia sent strict Islamic (Wahabbi) teachers to stir up Islamic fervor in Nigeria. These drastic actions led to violent riots between Christians and Muslims and thousands of people were killed in the fighting. The situation became even worse when Nigerians elected a Christian Leader to be their president in 1999.
Radical Muslims continue to exploit the outbreak of violence in the northern Nigeria and to call for the death of all Christians until Islam is firmly established. Fundamentalist Muslims see Nigeria as a strategic part of their plan to bring West Africa under sway of Islam. This is true because Nigeria has the largest population of any African nation, and in the year 2000 it ranked sixth among oil-producing nations. Nigeria thus represents a large reservoir of human and financial resources that can be used in the quest to bring all of Africa under Islam.
Africans have seen what militant Islam and terrorism can lead to. For example, the first major terrorist attacks in Africa took place in 1998 when a car bomb exploded outside the Untied States Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya. At the same time, terrorists attacked the United States Embassy in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. Then in 2002, Islamic militant in Kenya launched a missile attack an Israeli passenger plane, and 2003 they carried out a suicide bombing in Morocco.
Clearly militant Muslims will go to any extreme to fulfill their objective. Most African Muslims know very little about Orthodox Islam, and they don’t know the Arabic Language or how to say their prayers. Neither do they keep the fast. In fact many are steeped in witchcraft, and many are influenced by African Sufi teaching, which ignores Islam. As a result, most African Muslims recent orthodox Islam. Why? Because they don’t like other Muslims forcing them to learn Arabic and follow strict rituals. Furthermore, they resent orthodox Muslims severely criticizing their traditional practices
SUMMARY
The African Church is alarmed and has focused her attention on the growth of Islamic fundamentalism, which is natural. However, the church must also focus her attention on the millions of African Muslims who are NOT FUNDAMENTALISTS. The African church should see the present wave militant Islam as a divine opportunity to share the love of Jesus Christ with the millions of moderate non-fundamental African Muslims.
